I was speaking to an old man this week…an acquaintance at the local café. He was telling me that when he was 30, he married a single mother. The mother had a child that grew very attached to the man, eventually calling him “Dad.” Unfortunately, the situation went bad. The birth mother became jealous and lashed out at him, saying “She’s not your real daughter.”
This old man confided in me, reflecting in a wobbly voice: “That really hurt me. I loved that little girl.”
It’s a cautionary tale for men. Some women are ungrateful, prone to petty jealousy. If you dedicate your life to them, you pay for it. The royal coronation is a crown of thorns.
Life is about choices, bitter decisions. Two roads that diverge…and our future is shaped by the one we choose.
